Overview

Alpure Peaks Snowcat and Backcountry Adventures is in the heart of the Mackenzie District, in South Canterbury. Alpure Peaks offer guided cat skiing and snowboarding tours to intermediate and advanced skiers and riders.

Alpure Peaks use a snowcat (a coverted snow groomer) fitted with a ten-seat custom-built cabin to transport skiers and snowboarders up the mountain. Cat skiing and cat boarding is brilliant fun - better than heli-skiing as you get more runs and better value for money.

Location

Alpure Peaks is located on Clayton Road, 30 minutes from Fairlie, which is on SH 8. Driving times from Fairlie:

Christchurch: 2 hours 30 mins

Methven: 1 hour 30 mins

Geraldine: 40 mins

Lake Tekapo: 25 mins

Aoraki Mt Cook National Park: 1 hour 50 mins

Wanaka: 3 hours

Queenstown: 3 hours 30 mins

Pros

Highly trained and very experienced backcountry guide.

There is noone else around.

The area is avalanche controlled so the backcountry conditions are very safe.

It is better value than heli-skiing and you get around 8 runs in one day.
