The Golden Eagle was a speed skiing event held for a few decades from 1955 on Mt Northcott in the Australian Alps near Lake Albina.
The run was serviced by the old Northcott rope tow and Kunama Hutte. Kunama Hutte was sadly destroyed in an avalanche with the loss of one life. The tow was destroyed by fire soon after and all that now remains are ruins of both structures.
There is interest in reviving the Golden Eagle but a recent examination of the feasibility of running a 50th anniversary event revealed significant logistical, regulatory and safety issues that were too expensive to overcome. As such the Golden Eagle run remains the preserve of the dedicated back country enthusiast for the moment.
