- Overview
Hanmer Springs ski area is located near the town of Hanmer Springs, New Zealand and is about 2 - 2.5 hours from Christchurch, New Zealand. A tiny little ski resort, only servicing three lifts and a handful of runs, Hanmer Springs ski area is run by the Amuri Ski Club(Inc.) providing low fees with the intention of making it affordable to ski. The presence of a simple club in the place of a commercial resort and the obscurity of the resort create a close community and a spacious mountain to ski on. "Hanmer Springs Ski Area is small enough to be friendly but big enough to be private"

Getting There
The road out of Hanmer to the access road is clearly marked as Clarence Valley road and signed to Hanmer Springs Ski Area. The turn off from Clarence Valley road to the ski area is at St James Station, about ten kilometres out of town. The access road is a short but narrow gravel road with a few tight corners. It is north facing, so any ice left on it tends to melt when the sun shines. Car parks are located just below the Lodges.
The road is not recommended for camper vans, but two wheel drive cars with chains fitted normally have no problem, and four wheel drives can often get up without chains, especially later in the season. Chains must always be carried.
A shuttle runs daily from Hanmer Springs township
