- Overview
Very good ski area in Central Hokkaido with excellent snow. Great terrain and probably the most relaxed course policies in Japan which means more trees, more powder and more fun.

Location
Located in Central Hokkaido 50 minutes from Furano and 20 minutes from Asahikawa.
Pros
- Great management meaning the place is run for true skiers and boarders.
- Manager is a former pro free skier as is his son presently.
- Cheap and rarely ever crowded
Cons
- Very few unless you like big resorts and big base facitlities.
- Pretty antiquated in those terms.
- Limited advanced terrain.

Planning
Getting There
Day trips from Furano. Run from the Furano ski area by a number of companies including the North Country Inn. Shuttle buses from Asahikawa and the hotels there is the easiest. These are good city hotels with great access to this ski area.
Accommodation
On Mountain
Nowhere to stay overnight that is anywhere close to the resort and no other restaurants nearby.
Off Mountain
Best to stay in Asahikawa if you want to ski this area more than one day (which you should). Palace, Grand, Terminal and Crescent are all good and convenient for skiing and all the things in Asahikawa.
Lift Tickets
Can get them in packages with the hotels in Asahikawa or from the window at the ski area.
The bus run from Furano resort allows the use of your Furano ticket on an "exchange" basis. That is, you can ski the day at Kamui using one day of your Furano ticket.
Ski School
Small but there is one.
Equipment Hire
Available at the ski area.
Resort Facilities
Getting Around
Just a car park and two restaurants at the base. A great cafe bar at the top. Walk or ski or board around; it is more fun that way anyway.
Parking
Plenty and free.
Activities
Great skiing and boarding. Also, para-gliding if you have your own.
Dining
Good restaurant and a fast food cafe at the base.
Great dining at the top with beers and juices. (Not sure when this was written, but in Jan 08, the "restaurant" at the top was a shambles! Very ordinary food and slap-dash service.) Yep, there are beers and juices, as everywhere in Japan, from vending machines.
Bars & Entertainment
Not a great deal to do on resort. This is not a "live in" place.
Asahikawa has over 2,000 bars and restaurants. The food and entertainment, dining, cafes, sightseeing, night clubs, bars and just about everything else is here. Fantastic city to spend a few days or even a week in.
Shopping
You would never come here for the shopping. There are a couple of restaurants at most.
Asahikawa has fastastic shopping for everything you could possibly want.
Children
Kids can toboggan on the lower slopes, near the base. Apart from that, unless they ski or board, there is little for them to do here.
However ...
Children exist in Asahikawa as well as the rest of the world. Therefore there is a lot to do in the downtown area. The Asahiyama Zoo is also one of the best in Japan where you can walk with penguins and see polar bears.
Ride Guide
Beginner Areas
Great beginner area at the base.
Groomed Runs
Huge range of beginner, and intermediate terrain that is groomed to perfection.
Runs are long, well linked and beautifully prepared. In comaprison to Furano, there are plenty of "off piste" areas to ride.
Off Piste
Ski anywhere you like at the relaxed ski resort. Fantastic tree skiing with some good powder areas and well as some small drops to be found.
The resort has a "see it - ride it" policy, so anything within the resort boundaries is fair game. There are superb tree runs, under and around the gondola track.
Out of Bounds
Ski and ride it, but please do so with care and the proper equipment. Drop over the back in front of the gondola as you get off for great untouched powder.
Cross Country
N/A
Parks & Pipes
Small park with kickers and some rails and boxes.
Bumps
Some small bumps areas.
Powder Zones
Fantastic powder skiing and boarding as it is more like a NZ club field than a true ski resort. The runs are groomed very early each afternoon allowing the powder to build up, and the trees are a powder skiers dream.
Sheltered Runs
There are two sides to the ski area so if one side is blowing, head to the other. There is very little wind in this area however.
Snowplay
Yes, you can play with snow in Kamui Ski Links if you like.
Other
Weather
Perfect weather with a lot of snow.
