The local ski area for Nelson and Blenheim (upper South Island). One T-bar plus learner lifts. Small and friendly, rarely crowded.
Can be quite different in snowfall patterns to the southern resorts (so if snow no good down south, check the Rainbow snow report, it could be worth the trip).

- Natural snow cover on expert runs a bit unreliable.

33km from St Arnaud, 14km of which is gravel. Pretty good road by NZ standards. Nothing scary. The backpackers in St Arnaud has a shuttle bus going up the mountain road in the mornings.
One ski club lodge on mountain. Development plans for future are for large accommodation on-snow - watch this space.
St Arnaud township has backpackers, and motels.
Ski and board school, well organised.
Snowboard and ski equipment.
