The Snowies are the most beautiful place to do it! All abilities are catered for in the state's premier adventure playground. The Snowies boast some of the best adventure specialist companies in the country, staffed by trained and safety-conscious professionals. Under their watchful eye, the uninitiated can learn how to climb a rock face, abseil into a gorge or try ice-climbing.

For those experienced enthusiasts looking for a new location call Jindabyne Adventure Bookings direct on 0413 472 947 for bookings or Mountain Adventure Centre on 1800 623 459.

Snowy Mountains Climbing School have an office near the bottom of the Thredbo chair. They provide a great climbing and abseiling experience with patient and experienced instructors. K7 Adventures also offer climbing and abseiling.

Both these companies give ice climbing instruction in winter, usually at Blue Lake.

The rocky outcrop to the right of the top of the Thredbo chair has a surprising number of faces, overhangs, nooks and crannies and will easily keep an abseiler amused for a few hours. The photos to the right were taken there. Other routes are to be found in the rocky outcrops of the Ramsheads, visible from the top of the Thredbo Kosciuszko Chair.

Then again, try climbing the Cathedrals in Vic, near Buxton. One of the most accessible rock-climbing areas from Melbourne, it affords some great routes and spectacular views.
