Location

Shames Mountain is in the north west of British Columbia, in the North west coastal mountains about 35km west of Terrace and 135km east of Prince Rupert.

Pros

  • Large annual snowfall - 12 metres
  • Close to Terrace
  • Relatively quiet and uncrowded
  • Cheap Lift tickets ($39 Day)
  • Excellent Backcountry and off-piste

Cons

  • Small amount of on-piste area and lifted terrain.
  • Drive from Prince Rupert can be dangerous, with freezing rain conditions, falling rocks, narrow sections of road between a cliff and the Skenna River.

Getting There

Shames Mountain in the Northwest coastal mountains of British Columbia. It is approxametly 140km from Prince Rupert, and 30km from Terrace. There is a Shuttle Bus service from the Terrace McDonalds on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays

Hawkair and Air Canada both service Terrace and Prince Rupert daily.

The Backcountry around Shames is almost unrivaled in North America. With such a large annual snowfall, it has one of the most consistient snowpacks and some of the deepest snow available. The terrain is easily accessable with the T-bar providing convinient starts to many backcountry adventures.
