Cons

Unsealed road to the skifield can be challenging. No snowmaking on advanced and high intermedite runs. Pretty boring for the advanced in bad snow.

Groomed Runs

The Waterfalls and Fall line for those who like steep groomers. Alta Blue and Cross fall are great for intermediates.

Off Piste

Homeward Bound is great on a powder day or in spring

Alta chutes and runs off the highway are marked but are essentially offpiste. Short but steep!

Out of Bounds

Traversing skiers left from homeward bound gets you to Outward bound, a quick walk back up the road takes you to the shuttle pick up point

In a good snow year the toilet bowl is a fantastic run with huge vertical for NZ accessed by a very quick hike from sugar bowl and ending up near the shuttle pick up point

Cross Country

A former trail existed around Lake Alta but at current time no groomed cross country ski trails are available.

Parks & Pipes

Sugar bowl contains 3 Parks, a Beginner park, "the big park" featuring Intermediate and Advanced terrain and the Burton Stash, the only one of its kind in the southern hemisphere
