Good Backcountry runs Good learning terrain
Unsealed road to the skifield can be challenging. No snowmaking on advanced and high intermedite runs. Pretty boring for the advanced in bad snow.

There is snow tubing park for non skiier and snowboarders. Chairlift rides up shadow basin, aswell as the Lookout at the top of shadow looks back over queenstown for one of the best views around

Bars & Entertainment
Creche for young children and kids only ski and board lessons. Snow tunnels and cork screws are often around for children. Look out for spike and shred.

The Waterfalls and Fall line for those who like steep groomers. Alta Blue and Cross fall are great for intermediates.
Homeward Bound is great on a powder day or in spring
Alta chutes and runs off the highway are marked but are essentially offpiste. Short but steep!
Out of Bounds
Traversing skiers left from homeward bound gets you to Outward bound, a quick walk back up the road takes you to the shuttle pick up point
In a good snow year the toilet bowl is a fantastic run with huge vertical for NZ accessed by a very quick hike from sugar bowl and ending up near the shuttle pick up point
A former trail existed around Lake Alta but at current time no groomed cross country ski trails are available.
Parks & Pipes
Sugar bowl contains 3 Parks, a Beginner park, "the big park" featuring Intermediate and Advanced terrain and the Burton Stash, the only one of its kind in the southern hemisphere
The waterfalls run under the shadow basin lift line can get moguls forming from time to time

A tubing park with 1 rope tow
In Spring and in winter the north facing aspect of most of the area makes it bright and sunny During snow fall the tree less environment makes skiing and riding a little more difficult
